2010

Happy New Year!  I am so looking forward to all this year holds!

I am hoping to be back at Humanity Salon some time in February and will start taking appointments on Saturdays.  The salon is going to be an Aveda concept salon soon - I am so excited! That means all Aveda products, color, and techniques. I hope you'll come see me there!

I am also booking bridal appointments for the year and have had several inquiries. I love doing weddings and would love to meet with you for a consultation. If you want to get an idea for some of my work, a wedding I did was recently featured in Seattle Metropolitan Bride and Groom. Check out the link here.

Blessings to you in the 2010!

life changes

As a lot of you already know, we have a very rapidly expanding family.  We adopted Eddie in June, and are due with our third boy in November.  Talk about busy!

I will be at the salon on Saturday mornings through the end of October.  Hurry and make your appointment today!  Humanity Salons: 253-981-4182.

I will be taking appointments again at some point in late January, early February.  Enjoy the fall and the upcoming holiday season... the best time of year!

Blessings,
Carina

a new venture

I am so excited about this next big step!  My friends, Charissa and John Bensen, are opening a new salon in downtown Kent.  It's called Hum(v)anity and the concept is awesome.  20% of all profits are being donated to those experiencing extreme poverty - and you, the client, get to choose where that money goes.  There are six charities - from a local food bank to World Vision.

So, for now, that's where you can find me.  I will be working there Fridays from 10am-7pm and Saturdays from 9am-5pm.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Can't wait to see you there!

For now, call me to book an appointment.  After March 3rd, you can call the salon directly at (253) 981-4182.

i love the fall

Oh fall.  I love it.  I love the colors, I love the weather, I love the jackets and boots and sweaters and hats.   Then there's the pumpkins and cider and baking... Oh the list can go on and on.

Seasons change, and so does hair.  Fall is a great time to go a little darker, freshen up your current cut, and give your hair a little treat.  Maybe your hair is feeling a little dry from all the summer sun, time in the water, over-styling...

Here is an at-home solution that can give your hair a little boost and a little added shine:
Get a super moisturizing conditioner (I love Neutrogena's 60-Second Hair Repair).  After shampooing, get as much water out of your hair as possible.  Coat your hair with conditioner (not too goopy, but enough so all of your hair is covered).  Wrap it up in a towel and read, watch tv, or do whatever you need to do for about an hour.  Rinse and style as usual.  Doing this weekly, or even monthly, will do wonders for your hair!

a vacation for your hair

Every once in awhile you need to get away from it all, relax and refresh.  So does your hair!  Everyday stress can make it look dull and drab and just plain tired.  Need a little pick-me-up?  Next time you schedule an appointment, ask for a deep conditioning treatment.  If you're already having something done, it's just 15 bucks and an extra 15 minutes.  Your hair will thank you.

protect your hair!

The sun is finally shining and it's supposed to be nice all week - hooray!  Most of you are probably diligent about protecting your skin from the sun, but don't forget your hair... especially if it's colored.  If you'll be outside for awhile, try one or two of these ideas:
1. use leave-in conditioner.  it will serve as a barrier.
2. look for products with SPF built right in - they're out there!
3. mix 1 teaspoon of sunscreen with 1/2 cup of water in a spray bottle and spritz your hair.
4. wear a hat or bandana.
5. run a little sunscreen through your ends - not only will the weakest part of your hair be protected from damage, but it will double as a defining styling product!

Here's to more sunshine and happier hair!

perfect bangs

Side swept bangs are everywhere you look these days.  It's a hard look to perfect, but here is the styling secret:
Start with your bangs totally wet, and blow dry straight down, using a brush.  Then blow them the opposite direction of where you normally part your hair. Switch back and forth between these two positions.  Once your hair is dry, part as you normally would.  And remember, a little mousse never hurt anyone.
